WALL REMOVAL TO HAVE AN OPEN CONCEPT HOME

Open up any home design magazine or website, and you’ll see stunning pictures of open concept homes. These homes have connected kitchen, living, and dining areas that are open to each other.
There are many benefits to opening up your space. Most buyers prefer some open floor plan so it adds value to your home during resale. An open floor plan makes the home feel more spacious and airy and is particularly popular in modern home design. Removing walls allows for better natural light flow and improved sight lines throughout the home. Additionally, opening up the space provides more flexibility in furniture placement and creates a more functional and inviting space for entertaining and family gatherings.
Renovating your home to create an open floor plan is a big project with many moving parts. You’ll need help with impeccable design, load-bearing wall removal, and finishing.
So, where should you start? Are there permits involved? How can you relax and be confident that your result will look amazing?
As Toronto renovation contractors, we’re here to explain the process and make it easy for you to get started.
Step One: Design Your Open Floor Plan
The renovation process starts with designing an open-concept floor plan for your unique space. This is the plan for your final result and involves removing walls that separate the living, dining, and kitchen areas.

Step Two: Permitting and Walls
Executing your open floor plan will probably involve removing at least one load-bearing wall. A load-bearing wall supports the weight of a building or a portion of it. It’s designed to carry the weight of the roof, upper floors, and other structural elements above it and transfer that weight to the foundation. Load-bearing walls are typically made of thicker, more robust materials such as concrete, masonry, or steel.
Determining whether a wall is load-bearing isn’t straightforward and requires careful examination by a structural engineer or licensed contractor. While load-bearing wall removal requires a permit, our expert team takes care of permitting and is licensed to identify and modify load-bearing walls.
Not only do we take care of permitting, but our designer and general contractor work together from start to finish to ensure the build complies with Ontario building codes and permitted plans.
A non-load-bearing wall is a wall that’s not structural, and it serves as a divider between rooms and may be made of lighter and less durable materials such as drywall or wood. Non-load-bearing walls can be removed or altered without affecting the structural integrity of the building and in most case, its not required to get a permit.
Step Three: when it comes to wall removal, we take care of everything
